Sunshine State Labrador Rescue Surrender Application Information
We understand that surrendering your Labrador Retriever is a very difficult decision. Our team is here to support you with compassion and without judgment. This application helps us gather the information needed to assess your dog for acceptance into our program and determine the most appropriate next steps.
Eligibility & Important Requirements
Location Priority
• Surrender applications are prioritized for dogs located in Florida.
Breed Requirements
• Due to insurance restrictions, we cannot accept Labradors mixed with breeds considered dangerous.
• We only accept mixed breed dogs that are predominantly Labrador Retriever.
Application & Evaluation Process
1. Application Review
• Submitting an application form does not guarantee acceptance.
• Please answer all questions honestly and thoroughly so we can properly evaluate your request.
2. Photo Requirements
Please include three photos of your dog with your application:
• Full body, facing front
• Full body, side view
• Headshot
Photos must be in .jpg or .png format.
3. Volunteer Contact
After your online application is submitted, an SSLR volunteer will contact you to:
• Discuss your dog
• Explain the next steps in the surrender process
4. In Home Evaluation
Before acceptance, your dog will be evaluated by an SSLR volunteer:
• Typically conducted in your home
• May occur at another mutually agreed upon location if needed
5. Foster Home Availability
All dogs in our program stay in foster homes until adopted. We must have an open foster home available before your dog can be accepted.
6. Veterinary Records
Upon acceptance of the application, you will need to provide all of the dog’s veterinary records. If you do not have copies, your veterinarian can usually email them directly to you.

If you need immediate placement for your dog, we recommend contacting your local humane society for faster assistance.
